How to Steal Eggs in Steal An Egg — PvP Stealing & Defense

Stealing is the heart of Steal An Egg — it’s in the name. This guide covers both directions of the steal: taking eggs and keeping yours.

Stealing from biome guardians

Eggs spawn inside each biome guarded by that biome’s guardian pet. The basic pattern:

Scout the biome before grabbing — know where the exits are.
Grab the egg and immediately break away from the guardian’s patrol path.
Expect a chase — guardians hit hard, and hits can knock the egg loose.
Carry home — heavier eggs slow you more, so a straight-line sprint isn’t always best if it runs you past danger.

Stealing from players

Player pens hold their unhatched eggs. To raid:

Time it when they’re training — a player on the treadmill can’t defend.
Watch their exit path — most bases have one or two natural chokepoints.
Hit and run — the owner can hit you to knock their egg loose; distance is armor.
Server awareness matters — with only 7 players per server, you’ll learn regulars fast.

The rare egg window

Rare eggs spawn on the map roughly every five minutes (per the official game description), and every player in the server sees the same spawn. Community prediction threads try to time Eternal and Secret windows — the competition at those moments is fierce. Position near the expected spawn before the window opens.

Carrying and weight

Eggs have weight (community trading posts show egg weights from millions to 76M+ kg). Practical takeaways:

Heavier eggs = slower carry = longer exposure to theft.
The biggest steals are the hardest to walk home — plan the safest route, not the shortest.
Egg weight also appears to set the hatched pet’s size: big egg, big pet.

Defending your base

Hatch valuable eggs quickly — hatched pets can’t be stolen, only eggs can.
Train during off-peak windows for your server, or accept the risk.
Know your own geography — you respawn near your base; a thief carrying your egg does not have home advantage.
Upcoming anti-cheat (officially announced) should cut down speed-hack raids.

Scam warning

With gifting disabled and trading not yet live, “reserve” deals (agreeing now, trading later) are common in the community Discord. Common scams to avoid:

Anyone asking for your account credentials — the official Discord logs show phishing attempts like fake “your account is hacked” messages.
Off-platform payment for in-game pets.
Anyone rushing a deal or claiming middleman services that aren’t staff.
